SUMMARY:SPE Akron - ACS - ACESS Joint Society Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Sadhan Jana of the University of Akron\nVP of Research and Business Engagement and BF Goodrich Professor\, SPSE \nAbstract: Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are an emerging class of contaminants that are environmentally persistent\, bioaccumulative\, and noxious to human health. Among these\, the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) molecules are widely found in ground and surface water sources. A novel high surface area\, meso- and macro-porous polymer wet gel is used in this work as adsorbent of PFOA molecules from water at environmentally relevant PFOA concentrations (≤ 1 μg/L) and cleanse water to below the U.S. EPA’s 2023 health advisory limit of 4 parts per trillion (ppt). The sigmoidal shape of PFOA adsorption isotherm indicates a two-step adsorption mechanism attributed to strong affinity of PFOA molecules for the polymer surface and molecular aggregation at the solid-liquid interfaces or within the pores of the wet gel. The adsorption kinetics and the effects of wet gel porosity\, pore size\, and pore volume on removal efficiency are reported. The adsorption kinetics is seen strongly dependent on the pore size and the pore volume. \nDinner Reservations: Click to buy tickets \n$25 for members/public \n$10 for students/retired/unemployed \nThe lecture is free and open to the public. \n  \n5:45 p.m. Networking \n6:30 p.m. Dinner \n7:00 p.m. Lecture (open to public) \n  \nMissing Falls Brewery\, 540 S. SUMMARY:Peak Nano - Plant Tour\, Presentation and Dinner
DESCRIPTION:SPE Cleveland Presents\n A Presentation on\n“Layered Polymer Lens Manufacturing for Advanced Night Vision Systems”\nFollowed by a Plant Tour and Dinner\n\nMicro- and nanolayer coextrusion processing incorporates tens\, hundreds\, or thousands of alternating polymer layers within the thickness of traditional polymer films.Reducing the individual polymer layer thicknesses down below a micron\, sometimes to 25-50 nanometers\, through this specialized form of cast coextrusion has enabled production of films with unique optical\, gas transport\, water barrier\, and mechanical properties surpassing blends or traditional multi-layered approaches. A case study leveraging nanolayering as the key step in a novel ground-up manufacturing process for production of light weight\, high performance gradient refractive index lenses for next generation night vision optical systems will be presented. \n$15 for Students \n$25 for SPE Members \n$30 for Non-members \nOnline Payment\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n	\n	\n	\n	\n Donation Amount:\n \n \n $ 15.00\n \n StudentsSPE Cleveland MembersSPE MembersNon-members\n	\n Select Payment Method \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n PayPal\n \n \n \n \n\n	\n	\n\n \n \n Personal Info \n\n \n \n \n First Name *\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Last Name \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n Email Address *\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n Billing Details\n \n \n Country *\n \n \n\n \n United StatesCanadaUnited KingdomAfghanistanAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarrussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCambodiaCameroonCape VerdeCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongo\, Democratic People's RepublicCongo\, Republic ofCook IslandsCosta RicaCote d'IvoireCroatia/HrvatskaCubaCyprus IslandCzech RepublicDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEast TimorEcuadorEgyptEquatorial GuineaEl SalvadorEritreaEstoniaEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGreeceGhanaGibraltarGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard and McDonald IslandsHoly See (City Vatican State)HondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyan Arab JamahiriyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacauMacedoniaMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldova\, Republic ofMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNetherlands AntillesNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth KoreaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestinian TerritoriesPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairn IslandPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarReunion IslandRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaSaint HelenaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSlovak RepublicSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth GeorgiaSouth KoreaSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan Mayen IslandsEswatiniSwedenSwitzerlandSyrian Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzaniaTogoTokelauTongaThailandTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkeyTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUruguayUS Minor Outlying IslandsUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaVietnamVirgin Islands (British)Virgin Islands (USA)Wallis and Futuna IslandsWestern SaharaWestern SamoaYemenYugoslaviaZambiaZimbabwe \n \n\n \n \n Address 1 *\n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Address 2 \n\n \n \n\n \n \n City *\n \n \n \n\n \n \n State\n *\n \n \n \n AlabamaAlaskaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingAmerican SamoaCanal ZoneCommonwealth of the Northern Mariana IslandsFederated States of MicronesiaGuamMarshall IslandsNorthern Mariana IslandsPalauPhilippine IslandsPuerto RicoTrust Territory of the Pacific IslandsVirgin IslandsArmed Forces - AmericasArmed Forces - Europe\, Canada\, Middle East\, AfricaArmed Forces - Pacific \n \n\n \n \n Zip / Postal Code *\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Total \n \n $15.00
